Dark Stars’ last single before the release of the full length album Redshift is a tribute to the pioneers and visionaries of psychedelic rock and a bow to the personality scaping effect these influences have had.

There’s Jefferson Airplane, Blue Oyster Cult, 13th Floor Elevators and even a hint of 70s guitar heroes like Rory Gallagher. The influences are from the past, but Dark Stars gaze is strictly set on the future. Mirrors for Eyes is about bringing the musicality and dynamic richness of that era into today.

Much like other songs on the album, Mirrors For Eyes, asks the ontological question of what it means to exist. It alludes to the philosophical concepts of the hyperreal and the desert of the real through the theme of self-deception, on both a personal and a societal level.

What we perceive as real in the postmodern era is in fact just a mirroring of our own ego into the world of objects. The song takes an ironic approach into the search for authenticity through certain kinds of simulations. This search for the hyperreal is distinctly present in western culture, with it’s constant drive for nostalgia - which can be seen in remakes of classic series and artists that market themselves as “retro” - a type of nostalgia, which is also present on Mirrors for Eyes.
